Not Tonight (bp coyle)

Working at Air, Sea & Mountain Rescue Control Center for all of these years as I have, I’ve encountered some very strange situations. It never ceases to amaze me how downright dumb people can be. Guys who go surfing at the height of a storm. Guys who stay home when a hurricane strikes, despite being told to leave. Guy who… Yeah it always guys. There seems to be something lacking in men. Us girls do the sensible thing. Because, you know, we’re not idiots.

But this last call is one step too far. A seventy four year old man who decided to climb a mountain alone. In January. Naked. And now he is missing and I am supposed to send out the alert. To get good, brave men and women out of their beds, to drag them away from their families and to send them out in this awful weather to risk their lives saving some fool with a death wish. Not happening. I am not going to register this call, I will wipe the recording. I am not losing any of my co-workers, my friends, for this nut job. Not tonight. Tonight they get to sleep safe.
