Hansel and Gretel – A Witch’s Tale (bp coyle)

Pesky little kids, coming around here and eating my lovely house in the middle of the night. I built my little candy cottage in the middle of the forest where no one ever comes. The cottage of my dreams. What does a girl have to do to get a little privacy in this world?
But fine. Whatever. Two lost little souls, I did the only decent thing and took them inside, offered them food to warm them up. The girl in particular looks on the point of hypothermia. And they are both so thin, like they haven’t ever had a proper meal in their lives.
‘That’ll fatten you up,’ I told them with a smile. ‘Put some meat on your bones.’ I forced a laugh to make them feel at easy, sadly it’s more of a cackle these days. I am not as young as I’d like to be. The girl smiled back at me. But I do not like the look in the boy’s eyes. I think he might be a bit disturbed.
Oh well, I will send them on their way in the morning and life can get back to normal.
