There comes a time in everybody’s life when you realize that it just is not going to happen for you. None of those childhood fantasies are going to become reality.
I guess the big dreams die first. You aren’t going to become an astronaut and be the first person to set foot on Mars. You aren’t going to make it as a ballerina or a cowboy. You aren’t going to be rich or famous or sucsessful.
Then the middle sized ones go too. The nice house. The nice car. The nice wife. Kids that make you proud.
Until you give up on all of the little ones. You’ll never get your figure back, those twenty pounds are here to stay and more are following on behind. Your blood pressure will continue to rise, so will your cholesterol level.
Still you hold onto the tiny ones, the ones so small you hope the universe doesn’t notice them. The bus will be on time today. The boss will be out of the office at a meeting. The local shop won’t have run out of your brand of cheap bourbon again.
Oh, please God, not today. I really need it today.
