‘Hello’
‘Hey. This is Simon, Paul’s friend. Paul Brennan. We met in the pub last Saturday night. I don’t know if you remember…’
‘How did you get my number?’
‘Paul gave it to me.’
‘Paul doesn’t have my number, why would he?’
‘I think he got it from your friend Jane.’
‘Did he now? Well, isn’t that nice. So Paul’s friend, Steve is it?’
‘Simon.’
‘Whatever. Why exactly did you call me?’
‘I was wondering if you’d like to go out. On a date. I thought we hit it off well when we met.’
‘Listen Steve, I have to be honest with you. I have absolutely no idea who you are. Last Saturday night is pretty vague. And also, I’m not at all please with people giving out my number to total strangers. Not one little bit.’
‘Yeah, I can see how that would be annoying.’
‘Very.’
‘Okay. Look I’m sorry, this was a bad idea. I shouldn’t have called. And don’t blame anyone else about the number. It’s all on me.’
‘What about the date? What had you got in mind?
‘A movie maybe.’
‘When?’
‘Friday?’
‘Fine. Call me Thursday and we’ll sort out the details. Bye Steve’.
