They gave me a gun, with live ammunition.
I was refused by the army and the police, some crap about not being mentally fit.
But now I get to have a real gun and a sharp uniform.
All the girls like a man in uniform, that’s what my Mama always told me. A lot more useful advice than ‘life is like a box of chocolates’!
I like to see those men in the exercise yard. The way they look at the sky, the way they breath in the air. I like seeing their faces when they sit down to a plate of slop. I would not bring that stuff home for my dogs.
But my favourite thing is to work the night shift. I volunteer every chance I get. I love the look in their eyes when the cell door slams shut and they are trapped in their little cages. I love to walk the corridors with the lights down low listening to the tears, to the prayers, to the muffled grunts of those getting raped.
I like being a prison guard.
Seriously, what’s not to like?
One day I might even get to shoot one of them!
