A Spring I’ll Never Forget (bp coyle)

I think it’s fair to say that this isn’t a Spring that any of us will remember fondly.

Goddamn coronavirus!

Such a shame, a beautiful time of the year wasted.

I guess nature doesn’t mind, is probably happy to have a break from us all for a while. The birds are still building nests and the flowers are starting to bloom. The foxes are still keeping me awake each night with their Godawful mating sounds. Right there in my back garden, in plian view. Have they no shame?

I prefer to think back on happier Springs, somehow in my mind they all appear to have been happy ones. Flowers and gentle breezes and the promise of summer…

There was one though. What was I? Eighteen, nineteen I guess.

There was a girl.

Of course there was a girl, isn’t there always a girl at that age?

Was it Alice?

No, I’m almost sure it was Alice.

I do recall what she looked like, sweet in a subtle way.

It was a Spring with a promise of a Summer that never came.

A Hell of a Spring though.

One Hell of a Spring.
